Chance to create charity "best in show" potato pooch!
We're inviting children to enter our potato modelling competition with a dog-theme.
We're asking youngsters to create a "best in show" pooch from a potato during the Easter school holidays and beyond to be in with the chance of winning a 25 voucher to spend in our restaurant.
To celebrate the humble spud, its part in our culinary heritage in the UK and its important health qualities, we thought it would be a great idea to ask children to create models out of the vegetable.
The potatoes should be made into dogs, so we can also help raise awareness of our two chosen charities of the year Dogs 4 Adoption and The National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT), and the more creative the better!
Entrants should use a raw potato of any size and can use any arts and crafts materials to help with their creations too. We are then asking them to ask an adult to take a photo of their potato pooch and send it in to us via firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll share the pictures of the models only on our social media pages and ask customers to vote for their favourite one. Our judges here will then have the final decision and declare the overall winner.
Dogs 4 Adoption is a registered charity based at St Giles Kennels in Wrantage, which is owned by the Linnell family. The organisation is responsible for taking and caring for all of the stray dogs from the Taunton Deane and South Somerset areas.
The dogs are brought to them by the dog warden and if they are not reclaimed by their owners within the legal statutory time, Dogs 4 Adoption re-home them.
NAWT is one of the UK's top animal welfare charities operating five rehoming centres across the South of England.
The National Animal Welfare Trust was founded in 1971 as an independent charity. NAWT acquired Heaven's Gate Farm near Langport in the early 1990s. NAWT rehomed nearly 1,200 animals last year, mainly cats and dogs, but also rabbits, guinea pigs, birds and field animals.
